Established
in 1976, The US National Bonsai and Penjing Museum is found in
the National Arboretum in Washington DC. The museum collection
started when the Nippon (Japan) Bonsai Association donated 53
bonsai to mark the American bicentennial celebrations. Over the
following years, the collection has increased thanks to generous
donations of important trees from countries including Japan, China
and the United States. Now over 200,000 people annually visit
the museum's collection of 150 trees located in three pavilion
houses.
My thanks
to Rob Kempinski for these pictures of some of the Arboretum's
trees.
