Cotoneaster species/Cotoneaster Species Guide

There are many species of Cotoneaster and even more varieties and hybrids suitable for bonsai cultivation. Commonly seen are;

C. adpressus, C. cashmiriensis (syn. C.microphylla var. cochleatus), C. horizontalis /Rockspray Cotoneaster, C. microphylla (now correctly known as C.integrifolius) but there are many other suitable species.

Position Outdoor only. Full sun. As bonsai require some protection from temperatures below -5°C.

Repotting Annually in Spring as new buds extend. Use basic soil mix.

Propagation Sow seed in containers outside in Autumn. Layer in Spring, root softwood cuttings in summer.
