The original piece of deadwood that the tree is attached to was found whilst clearing a garden a few years ago.

2002. After soaking the wood in preservative for 2 months to protect it from rotting, a young Juniper was attached to in a channel cut into the back of the deadwood; the trunk was held firmly in position using small brass screws.

June 2004. The tree has been allowed to recover for a couple of years. Some occasional pinching and pruning helped increase the density of the foliage.
The deadwood has also had some minor carving to reduce the size of the 'jins'.

August 2004. After styling. The tree has been heavily pruned back and every remaining branch wired into position.

Spring 2005. The tree is planted into an Erin Pot built by Vic Harris.
Height 6"/15cm

Update June 2006

June 2009: 3 years later and the bonsai has developed well. The foliage is thinned quite hard annually to maintain the light crown while the lower cascading branch pads have strengthened and developed well.
The height of the tree is now 5" or 12.5cm above the pot.
