Parthenocissus quinquefolia/Virginia Creeper Bonsai Progression Series

Parthenocissus quinquefolia/Virginia Creeper Progression Series

Found as a large root from my garden in 2000, this Virginia Creeper had been growing up the side of my garage for 30 years having been planted by previous owners.

Though I had intended to dig up and throw away the plant, upon discovering the interesting root shape, I decided to keep it and see if it would bud out.

Pictured here in the Winter of 2001, the root successfully recovered from its rude awakening.

By 2004 the tree had developed well but finding a suitable pot was difficult, so I contacted Vic Harris at Erin Pottery who suggested a couple of freeform designs.
