Early May 2012: After removal of the last of the previous years' leaves that remain on the tree until just before bedbreak in Spring, the Beech was pruned and detail-wired.

The beech has been in a state of slow growth and refinement for the past 3 years, however comparing the bonsai in 2009 (left) and 2012 (right) illustrates a number of subtle improvements in the tree, over and above the increased ramification. The trunk has become thicker, branch taper has improved and the trunk, branches and nebari (surface roots) have matured and have taken on a more natural appearance.
